Maple Nut Squares |

| If you like pecan pie this is a recipe for you. Crust 1 ¼ cups flour 1/3 cup sugar (maple, white or brown) ½ cup softened butter Mix flour and sugar, then cut in the butter and blend until mixture resembles coarse meal. Press into the bottom of a greased 8”or 9” square pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes. Reduce the heat to 350 degrees. Topping 1 cup maple syrup ½ cup sugar (maple, white or brown) 2 large eggs, beaten well 2 tablespoons melted butter 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla 2 tablespoons flour ¼ teaspoon salt 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans or almonds) Combine all ingredients except the nuts. Beat well, stir in nuts and pour over the baked crust. Bake at 350 for 35 to 45 minutes, until set. We ate it warm and a little gooey in a bowl with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delicious variation on a brownie sundae. Back to top |

Maple Pudding - an Old Fashioned Comfort Dessert |

| Mix together: 1 cup flour ½ teaspoon salt 1 1/2teaspoons baking powder ¼ cup dark brown sugar ½ cup milk 1 teaspoon vanilla ¼ cup melted butter Pour into a 1 qt. casserole. Sprinkle with some chopped nuts. (Let your taste be the guide.) Boil together: ¾ cups maple syrup 1/3 cup water Pour over batter and bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. It will form its own wonderful sauce. Serve warm with some cream or ice cream. Back to top |
